Tofinou 9.7, a new dayboat imagined with the Peugeot Design Lab

The French Latitude 46 shipyard (La Rochelle) , a specialist in neo-classical dayboats, has announced the development of a new model, the Tofinou 9.7, an ambitious project stemming from the joint work of the shipyard's design office, the Italian naval architect Michele Molino and of the Peugeot Design Lab.

The Peugeot Design Lab at work

We have worked with the team of the shipyard Latitude on the deck and cockpit of the new Tofinou 9.7 sailing yacht with the objective of bringing a modernized aesthetic while respecting the identity and codes of the Tofinou brand.

Tofinou boats are renouned for their elegant, pure, fine and classic lines. They are designed and manufactured with exceptional French know-how whilst exploiting the latest techniques. This is especially evident where rich and natural materials such as mahogany are contrasted with the high tech composite elements.

We worked hand in hand in order to create a pure and harmonious design with simple and elegant forms and surfaces. Through this precise and dynamic design we have been able to create the spirit of the next generation of boats.

The design highlights the new features of the Tofinou 9.7 in terms of the ergonomics of navigation, ease of movement on board and integration of equipment. For example, the control screens have been precisely orientated towards the skipper in order to improve visibility whilst protecting them from both seawater splashes and distracting reflections.

The slender and dynamic lines of the boat are coherent with the purity and elegance that distinguish the Tofinou boats family. The rear is open to the sea, taking advantage of the width of the powerful hull and the promises an intense sailing experience.

A more powerful hull

The Tofinou 9.7 was born from the desire of the Latitude 46 construction team to use the classic heritage and the characteristic quality of the construction site by bringing technological innovation and design to it. This is why we worked hand in hand with the industrial design and the automobile world to continue the «family style» of the brand Tofinou always appreciated. His family area remains unchanged, but its lines have been modernized to make it more aggressive.

From the point of view of naval architecture we’ve looked for a more powerful hull, supported by the effectiveness of the double saffron in its retractable keel version. This version has been extensively thinked and its technologies borrowed from the world of the maxi to be able to combine performance and reliability

With a deck plan, inspired by Peugeot Design and adaptable to a solitary or crewed sailing program, the Tofinou 9.7 has an ergonomic and safe cockpit and a back bathing range.

Even if the fundamentals of Tofinou are preserved with recognizable mahogany hallways, signature of the building site, this model marks a new dynamic thanks to the use of materials, with stainless steel parts, chrome and a delphiniere made of carbon.

In order to adapt to all water features this dayboat offers three different bowling systems; a fixed keel, a pivoting keel and a lift ; and two saffron system a mono or a bi saffron. The Tofinou 9.7 is equipped with a 15 HP Inboard engine with an access from the interior cab.
