Committed to an ambitious environmental approach, Port Fréjus once again stands out by implementing innovative solutions to limit the impact of nautical activities on the environment. After receiving awards in 2019 for its ecological initiative and in 2023 for the creation of the Mérou underwater trail, the marina received the innovation award from the France Station Nautique association in 2025. This distinction recognises the installation of a car wash equipped with a watermaker, which was inaugurated last June.
In the face of increasingly frequent periods of water restrictions, the management of water resources has become a central issue for marinas. To enable boaters to continue to maintain their boats without depleting drinking water reserves, Monawa, a company specialising in ecological solutions for boat maintenance, has developed a car wash that uses desalinated seawater. This device, which filters up to 600 litres of salt water per hour, can rinse several boats while reducing the environmental impact.
AGL Marine, a company committed to the dissemination of sustainable technologies, markets these stations to marinas and local authorities. By facilitating the adoption of this solution by other nautical infrastructures, AGL Marine contributes to the generalisation of environmentally friendly practices and to meeting the challenges of preserving water resources.
The initiative set up by Port Fréjus is based on a simple and effective principle: to offer boaters two separate washing points, one using seawater for the initial cleaning, and the other, supplied by the desalinator, for the final fresh water rinse. This approach optimises the use of resources while guaranteeing efficient maintenance of the boats.
With this new advance, Port Fréjus confirms its commitment to more responsible boating, thus reinforcing its image as a pioneering port in terms of sustainable management of maritime spaces, already labelled Pavillon Bleu since 1993 and certified Port Propre and Port Propre Actif en Biodiversité.
