The container ship MV Ever Given, a giant ship of 400m in length and 59m in width, ran aground in the Suez Canal after a strong gust of wind, forcing the Suez Canal operator to open the historic canal in both directions, as it is only open in one direction, following the doubling of the canal.
The shipowner and the canal authorities are currently working to unblock the container ship, with the help of tugboats dispatched on site.
According to the Suez Canal management, a hundred ships are blocked behind the MV Ever Given, which must take their trouble.
The incident occurred while the MV Ever Given was en route to Rotterdam from Asia.
Launched in 2018 and registered in Panama, the MV Ever Given is a latest generation container ship with a carrying capacity of 20124 boxes (TEU).
