Brunswick Corporation has announced the launch of TotalCare, a new extended warranty programme designed for owners of new motorboats. Developed by Brunswick Product Protection Corporation, this programme is designed to cover a wide range of components on the boat and its engine, whilst simplifying the enrolment and pricing processes.
The TotalCare programme is intended to be offered across a wide range of boats marketed by Brunswick Corporation, notably under the Bayliner, Quicksilver, Boston Whaler, Sea Ray and Navan brands, depending on the markets and the roll-out terms selected by the group.
Brunswick presents TotalCare as its most comprehensive cover programme to date. The offer is based on a so-called ‘exclusionary’ cover principle, meaning that items not covered are explicitly identified in the contract.
The programme is designed to protect the majority of the boat’s components and engine against faults covered by the contract. It also covers certain ancillary costs associated with repairs, including lifting, handling, hauling out or access to the boat—costs that can sometimes add significantly to the cost of a technical intervention.
Brunswick states that it has simplified the programme’s pricing structure by basing it on the boat’s original purchase price. This approach is intended to make it easier for dealers to provide quotes and for customers to better understand the cost of the cover offered.
The manufacturer also highlights enhanced compensation for certain expenses related to covered repairs.
Brunswick presents TotalCare as an extended warranty programme and not as marine insurance.
This distinction is important for owners. Boat insurance generally covers risks associated with boating, such as collisions, groundings, fires, theft, storms or the owner’s civil liability.
Conversely, an extended warranty programme such as TotalCare is primarily designed to cover certain breakdowns or technical faults affecting the equipment covered by the contract, as well as the costs associated with repairs.
Affected boat owners should therefore carefully check the details of the cover offered and not regard this programme as a substitute for standard boat insurance.
With TotalCare, Brunswick aims to address several concerns frequently raised by boaters, including managing repair costs, the complexity of insurance policies and periods of boat downtime.
This new offer is now available on certain new motorboats sold by the group’s brands and its partners.
With TotalCare, Brunswick is introducing an extended warranty scheme for owners of new motorboats, covering a wide range of boat and engine components as well as certain costs associated with repair work. Presented as a solution designed to simplify the management of breakdowns and maintenance costs, this scheme should not, however, be confused with boat insurance. Unlike boat insurance, which covers risks associated with boating such as accidents, theft or third-party liability, TotalCare primarily covers technical faults specified in the contract.
