The American builder Boston Whaler chose the Miami International Boat Show to host the world premieres of the new-generation 330 Outrage and 290 Outrage. These two models reflect the evolution of an emblematic range dedicated to offshore performance and versatile use, from sport fishing to family outings.
Founded in 1958 and part of Brunswick Corporation for several years, Boston Whaler has established itself as one of the global benchmarks in offshore fibreglass boats. The brand built its reputation on its so-called “unsinkable” Unibond construction, which remains a key differentiator in the premium centre-console segment. Over the decades, the Outrage line has become a cornerstone of the catalogue, combining safety, robustness and offshore capability.
Flagship of this new generation, the 330 Outrage has undergone a comprehensive redesign, starting with the integration of WhalerStep hull technology. This solution combines Brunswick’s patented stepped T-hull design with Boston Whaler’s proprietary Unibond structure.
The stated objective is to improve hydrodynamic efficiency, optimise fuel consumption and deliver a smoother, drier ride in demanding offshore conditions. The technical upgrade is also intended to enhance high-speed stability and maintain control in rough seas.
The 330 Outrage is powered by twin 425 hp outboard engines from Mercury Marine, delivering a maximum output of 850 horsepower. Onboard electronics are centred around Simrad NSS4 multifunction displays integrated into a helm station designed to prioritise ergonomics and clear data visibility while underway.
With an overall length of 33 feet (10.06 m), a beam of 10 ft 2 in (3.10 m) and a fuel capacity of 300 gallons, the 330 Outrage targets boaters seeking autonomy and versatility for extended days at sea. A maximum capacity of 14 persons and a payload of 2,980 lb reinforce its positioning as a multi-purpose centre console.
Presented simultaneously, the 290 Outrage extends this technical and stylistic approach to the rest of the range. Measuring 30 ft 6 in (9.30 m) overall with a beam of 9 ft 4 in (2.84 m), it offers a maximum power rating of 700 horsepower and a fuel capacity of 194 gallons.
The model adopts the design language and hull developments introduced on the 330, reflecting the builder’s intention to harmonise the entire Outrage family around a shared philosophy: performance, safety and comfort.
Beyond outright performance, Boston Whaler highlights extensive work on ergonomics and spatial modularity. Both models feature optimised circulation areas, redesigned storage solutions and layouts suited to a variety of programmes, including sport fishing, coastal cruising, watersports and family excursions.
