The Zurn/NEB 38 was conceived for fishing and diving, and to get you there quickly. The Ultra Jet drives are powered by twin Volvo Penta D-6 Diesel engines (a combined 870 hp for a 40 knot top speed) with a choice of wheel or joystick steering. She will comfortably cruise at 36 knots.
The hull and deck are built with an epoxy resin infused, cored composite construction, for a light-weight and strong structure. Careful design of the hard-chined, moderate-V planning hull optimizes hull shape efficiency and ride stability. Assisting the smooth ride is Seakeepers NEW 3DC battery powered gyrostabilizer, which delivers unprecedented stability while at anchor diving or trolling for trophy fish.
For maximum vantage point in tight maneuvering, a removable, remote steering station can be mounted on the Pilot House hard-top. The mast-like station provides a sturdy, buckle-in, ergonomically designed leaning post with yolk-arms that accommodate the water jet joystick and throttle controls. Additional control is offered by the Side Power bow-thruster.
This modern day vessel employs state of the art control and monitoring systems, and sophisticated electronics for navigation, fish finding and sonar, and optional night vision security. On-board power is supplied by a substantial DC house battery bank. An inverter provides 120 VAC power with both AC and DC power outlets located throughout the Pilot House and cabin. Audio entertainment can be shared between the Cabin, Pilot House, and Cockpit areas.
Hot and cold water is available at the head and galley sinks, as well as the cockpit wash-down shower, where passengers can rinse off after a warm swim or grouper spear hunt. A Sealand VacuFlush system and holding tank provide a clean, efficient, and easy means waste water management.
Layout and Amenities
The Pilot House sports settee and table seating along each side, with swiveling Stidd helm seats for the pilot and co-pilot to join in the socializing. Large forward windscreens and side windows provide panoramic viewing for a scenic sunset cocktail and safer navigation in crowded or adverse conditions.
The open cockpit offers an impressive amount of space for a 38-foot boat, and includes removable bait wells and fish lockers, as well as storage space for rods, spear guns, outriggers, and other fishing and diving gear. The transom seat folds up out of the way for additional room. Both sides of the cockpit and also the aft end of the hard-top are equipped with rod holders, and can be augmented by a pair of 15-foot removable outriggers. Wide side decks provide ample passage room to the foredeck and ground tackle.
A 9’ HBI dingy is stored on the Sealift swim platform that mechanically lowers for easy dinghy launching. Dinghy chocks fold flush to the platform surface when not in use. The platform is perfect as a staging area for a reef dive, or for an evening dip by underwater lighting to end a relaxing day.
Below deck the Zurn/NEB 38 has a simple and elegant open interior as comfortable quarters for two. Cheery ceilings accent the Block Island influenced cabin and frames the queen-sized berth with ample drawer storage beneath. Aft of the berth is a head to port, and to starboard a modest galley, with sink, microwave, small DC fridge, Corian countertop, and cabinet storage.
