The Grand Pavois Fishing event took place over two days of competition over the weekend of 23 and 24 September. This no-kill fishing event ended up with 63 gillnetted bass, and the competition was complicated by the unusual weather conditions.
- Day 1 -
The first race was launched under the bridge on the Île de Ré at 8.15am on Saturday morning. This area was chosen because of the growing swell to the north-west of Oléron, but this had a direct impact on the progress of the competition.
Indeed, many boats were forced to approach the coast closely, in areas sometimes approaching less than 50 centimetres of water under the hull... make sure you keep your eyes on the depth sounder!
In the end, the Yamaha-Navicom crew (winners in 2022 in this same zone) finished first with 250 points, followed by Suzuki Fishing Team 1 with 187 points, then Suzuki Fishing Team 2 with 138 points. Of the 32 crews entered, 18 were finally ranked at the end of this first round.
- Day 2 -
The second race was then launched on Sunday morning at 8.10am, once again under the bridge on the Île de Ré, due to the swell and breakers.
At the end of this second round, which proved to be difficult, 25 boats were classified and Shimano France was the only crew to make the quota (5 meshed fish), followed by Suzuki Fishing Team 2 with 4 meshed fish and Ribwest with 3 meshed fish.
The Nautique Service crew reeled in a 67-centimetre fish! The overall rankings were turned upside down by this second leg, during which the leading team from the previous day caught just one mesh fish, putting them in 10th place in this 2nd leg.
Thanks to the consistency of Tony Palermo, Claude Jubert and Damien Pichon of Suzuki Fishing Team 2, who finished 3rd and then 2nd in the two heats, they reached first place in the overall standings with 333 points, ahead of Yamaha-Navicom of Xavier Rigollet, Boris Moreau and Benjamin Moreau who finished second with 300 points, and Suzuki Fishing Team 1 of Sébastien Mongruel, Jérôme Taboulet and Sébastien Gaillard taking third place on the podium with 231 points.
