The Yacht Club de Monaco obtains RYA accreditation and expands its range of nautical training courses

The Yacht Club de Monaco (Y.C.M.) is strengthening its commitment to maritime training with the award of Royal Yachting Association (RYA) accreditation. Announced on 24 June 2025 by H.S.H. Prince Albert II at the annual members' cocktail party, this international recognition marks a new milestone for the Monegasque institution. With this accreditation, the Belle Classe Academy and the Y.C.M. Sports Section are expanding their training offerings for sailing enthusiasts and professionals in the sector.

Thanks to this accreditation, the Y.C.M. joins a global network of more than 2,400 RYA-approved centres. The training courses already on offer, such as the Powerboat Level I & II modules launched in 2024, are now complemented by new certifications: RYA Dinghy Sailing for small boats and Personal Watercraft Courses for jet ski piloting. This expanded range of courses reflects Monaco's desire to position itself as a leading player in the yachting industry.

The Y.C.M. is also focusing on training instructors. An intensive three-day course will be set up to train young sailors from the Sports Section who wish to become instructors. The aim is to introduce them to teaching methods, seamanship techniques and safety principles. The programme will be supervised by James Brooke, RYA Chief Instructor at the Y.C.M., who has extensive experience around the world. He will be assisted by Tiziano Massa, the club's first coach to obtain RYA Sailing Scheme Senior Instructor certification at the UKSA centre in Cowes, who will supervise the programme.

To complement this offer, the Y.C.M. is repeating its Summer Yachting Camp in July after a successful first edition. Organised in collaboration with Seascope France, this immersive camp is aimed at young people aged 16 to 22. Participants discover the world of yachting through a mix of theory lessons, practical experience and international certifications. The programme includes RYA Powerboat Level II for motor boats up to 10 metres, RYA Personal Watercraft for jet skis and STCW for safety training at sea.

RYA-approved dinghy sailing courses are now available throughout the year as part of the Y.C.M.'s sports programme. These sessions are run by specially trained instructors who can offer guidance tailored to all levels.

With this recognition, the Yacht Club de Monaco aims to offer young sailors, professional crews and enthusiasts high-quality training in line with international standards. For Bernard d'Alessandri, Director and Secretary General of the Y.C.M., this initiative illustrates the club's desire to support the development of skills among those involved in sailing, while helping to make the Principality a centre of excellence in sustainable yachting.

The momentum created by the Yacht Club de Monaco is part of a broader project to make Monaco the ‘Capital of Advanced Yachting’. By developing internationally recognised and certified courses, the club is pursuing its ambition to train the sailors of tomorrow and support the sector's development in a spirit of responsibility and innovation.
