More than 150 people gathered on 11 June to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the "Yachting Monaco" Cluster in the presence of H.S.H. Prince Albert II, President of the Yacht Club de Monaco, who congratulated the members on their efforts to promote Monegasque yachting.
H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco with Bernard d'Alessandri, Secretary General of the Y.C.M. and Chairman of the "Yachting Monaco" Cluster, Edouard Mousny and Espen Oeino, Vice-Chairmen of the "Yachting Monaco" Cluster.
"This initiative has become a reality. You are the ambassadors of yachting in the Principality. We want yachting to be as sustainable as possible, both over time and in terms of the environment," commented the Sovereign.
"In ten years, we have achieved a great deal, highlighting the strategic nature of the yachting sector for the Monegasque economy," explained Bernard d'Alessandri, Secretary General of the Y.C.M., Founder and Chairman of the "Yachting Monaco" Cluster, alongside Espen Oeino and Edouard Mousny, its Vice-Chairmen, Laurent Certaldi, Treasurer, and the entire industry family.
The Cluster is one of the first in the world to focus exclusively on the yachting industry, and currently has 90 member companies.
Since its creation, the "Yachting Monaco" Cluster has played an essential role as a federator and privileged intermediary within the industry. By bringing together a wide range of players - from brokers and designers to shipyards, equipment manufacturers and many other professionals - it has created a unique synergy that is conducive to innovation and sustainable growth in this largely unknown sector.
Monaco's yachting industry currently comprises 411 specialist companies, generating 1,429 jobs ashore and generating sales of €567.1 million.
This success is the result of 10 years of collective effort, and goes far beyond the economic framework. Indeed, today "it has established itself as the representative of the Monegasque yachting industry on the international scene, particularly at the world's most prestigious boat shows", continued Bernard d'Alessandri, "such as Dubai, Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Palma, Monaco...". The "Yachting Monaco" cluster has become a model that has been followed beyond Monaco's borders. This competitive cluster has been able to inspire and unite all the players in the yachting industry around common objectives.
6 separate working groups
Six active working groups have been set up around a number of themes: Compliance-KYC, Reflection on Monaco as a destination and promotion of the yachting sector, Spring and Winter Pop up by Cluster ''Yachting Monaco'', International Promotion, Partnerships and Energy Transition.
Ongoing efforts have helped to structure actions and consolidate ambitions.
"Monaco is now THE benchmark for the yachting industry," notes Peter Lürssen of the eponymous shipyard, for whom the Cluster must "pursue this path of excellence to continue to inspire us, so that together we can build a sustainable future and yachting. As a federation, the Cluster will continue to act as a privileged intermediary, facilitating exchanges, partnerships and ambitious projects. An objective that is based on the quality of a solid network and unique development opportunities.
"Despite these successes, we are aware that there is still a long way to go. There are still many challenges to be met if we are to continue to make yachting an exemplary sector in terms of economic performance, technological innovation and environmental responsibility," adds Bernard d'Alessandri. The members of the "Yachting Monaco" Cluster have set themselves the task of continuing their efforts to train young talent, further improve infrastructures and increasingly encourage sustainable practices, all with a view to building a more sustainable future in line with the ambition of the "Monaco, Capital of Advanced Yachting" initiative. To this end, the players in the sector will be encouraging innovation among the younger generation at the 11th Monaco Energy Boat Challenge (1-6 July 2024).
