This 22m long yacht, the Conception, armed by a crew of 5 sailors, and accommodating 28 guests, was cruising off the coast of Santa Cruz Island, Los Angeles, when a fire suddenly broke out on board at about 3:30 a.m.

The rescue Teams who arrived very quickly, had a great deal of difficulty in containing the disaster.

At the end of the night, the yacht sank, less than 65 feet from the shore of the island of Santa Cruz.

If the five crew members were able to jump into the water before being taken over by a rescue vessel, they owe their salvation only to being on the main deck at the time of the disaster, while the 28 guests who were in their cabin, at lower deck, at the time of the incident, were trapped there.

The number of victims is not yet officially reported, but it could be very heavy, with as many as 28 missing.
