The Wauquiez 55 represents a significant step forward in the evolution of the renowned northern French shipyard’s blue-water cruising yachts. Conceived by Marc Lombard Design, this 55-foot vessel is tailored for long-range sailors, blending reliable technical solutions with thoughtful design choices to maximise autonomy, comfort, and ease of handling.
Measuring 16.80 metres in length with a beam of 5 metres, the yacht features a well-balanced hull that strikes an optimal compromise between sailing performance and load-carrying capacity—an essential trait for long-distance sailing with a small crew or family. The construction utilises a vacuum-infused glass-epoxy sandwich, keeping weight to a minimum while maintaining the structural rigidity necessary for extended offshore cruising.
The deck layout has been engineered for practicality and safety at sea. It includes twin helm stations, a centrally positioned cockpit offering excellent protection, and direct access to the winches for smooth sail handling. Clear movement around the deck is assured, with an ergonomic design intended to reduce fatigue during prolonged passages.
Below deck, the interior layout is centred on long-term functionality rather than luxury. The design maximises usable space, providing ample storage and a layout that remains practical in a seaway. A spacious U-shaped galley offers a secure working environment while under sail, and the luminous saloon features clearly defined areas for dining and navigation. The cabins, though simply styled, are designed to provide consistent comfort whether at anchor or underway.
A defining feature of the Wauquiez 55 lies in its emphasis on self-sufficiency. With generous tankage, efficient on-board energy solutions, and simplified maintenance systems, the yacht is purpose-built for extended cruising. It avoids unnecessary complexity while still addressing the essential needs of blue-water sailors seeking a dependable and liveable vessel for adventure.
