Volvo Penta presents the D6 480 DPI, a new marine propulsion system

Volvo Penta has announced the launch of the D6 480 DPI, the latest addition to its Aquamatic DPI marine propulsion system range. Designed for configurations ranging from single to quadruple engine installations, this new system is intended for both the leisure and commercial markets.

The D6 480 DPI is part of a ‘cockpit-to-propeller’ integration approach, with a fully connected system. Combined with the Volvo Penta Glass Cockpit, it incorporates features such as Joystick Driving, Assisted Docking and Autopilot. The aim is to offer an intuitive boating experience, comparable to that of a car, providing precision and comfort during manoeuvres and cruising.

Designed to combine speed and control, the D6 480 DPI benefits from specific marine torque, rapid acceleration and Duoprop technology. Capable of tight turns at high speed, it also improves fuel efficiency while reducing emissions. This increased manoeuvrability allows users to pilot with greater peace of mind and focus on other aspects of navigation.

The sterndrive configuration frees up the rear of the boat, providing more open space and greater proximity to the water. The system also features a hydraulic clutch for quiet gear changes, precise electronic steering and a lower centre of gravity, ensuring enhanced stability even in rough seas.

Designed for low maintenance, the D6 480 DPI offers extended service intervals and comes with a warranty of up to three years. Volvo Penta also highlights the availability of its global service network to ensure reliability and continuity of use.

With this new product, the Swedish manufacturer completes its already renowned DPI range and confirms its strategy of offering propulsion systems that combine power, comfort and flexibility. For shipyards, distributors and end users, the D6 480 DPI opens up new possibilities in terms of design, performance and applications.
