Assisted docking: partnership between Volvo Penta and Quick Nautical

The Italian group Quick and Volvo Penta have announced a collaboration aimed at integrating Quick Nautical Equipment's proportional electric thrusters into Volvo Penta's Assisted Docking system. The aim of this technological partnership is to improve the precision and fluidity of docking manoeuvres, a key moment in recreational boating.

Assisted docking: partnership between Volvo Penta and Quick Nautical

Quick Nautical Equipment, a subsidiary of the Quick Group, has established itself as an international benchmark in the design of marine equipment ranging from windlasses to thrusters. Its proportional electric thrusters, designed and manufactured in Italy, are renowned for their robustness, consistent performance and manufacturing quality, which is recognised by many shipyards.

Volvo Penta, for its part, continues to develop solutions designed to simplify manoeuvring. Since its launch in 2021, the Assisted Docking system has used a joystick combined with GPS guidance to compensate for the effects of wind and current in real time. It allows the boat to be precisely aligned, held in a fixed position or rotated around a point, making docking easier even in difficult conditions.

Integration with Quick thrusters will be made possible via the Proportional Control System (PCS), ensuring compatibility with the Volvo Penta Aquamatic DPI and IPS propulsion ranges. This development is scheduled to be commercially available by the end of 2025.

For both partners, this cooperation illustrates the convergence between mechanical engineering and digital innovation in the service of simpler and more accessible navigation. It responds to the growing demand from boat owners for reliable, intuitive and safe technologies, particularly during docking manoeuvres.

Quick and Volvo Penta will provide further details on this new integration at the Cannes Yachting Festival from 9 to 14 September 2025.
