Unveiled at the Cannes Yachting Festival, the Lagoon EIGHTY 2 marks an important milestone in the history of the world leader in cruising catamarans. This new 82-foot model, designed to combine elegance, comfort and innovation, stands out in particular thanks to an exclusive partnership with Sunbrella, a specialist in high-end technical textiles. Together, the two brands promote a shared vision: that of a lifestyle at sea that goes beyond sailing to become an immersive experience, combining design and functionality.
Founded in the 1960s, Sunbrella has established itself as a benchmark in the field of technical textiles for boating. Its fabrics, designed to withstand the most demanding marine conditions — UV rays, salt spray, temperature variations — are now used on everything from racing yachts to luxury yachts. At the same time, Sunbrella has expanded its expertise to furniture and decoration, becoming a recognised player in interior and exterior architecture. The collections are designed and manufactured in France and are distinguished by a constant search for innovation, combining performance and aesthetics.
The partnership between Lagoon and Sunbrella has found its first concrete expression on board the EIGHTY 2. The catamaran, designed as a true floating residence, benefits from custom-made textile compositions that enhance the feeling of comfort and well-being. Inspired by the colours of Polynesian lagoons, the creations evoke emerald waters, lush vegetation and the mineral shades of rocks. The seats and cushions, dressed in stripes, mottled textures or patterns evoking the seabed, adapt to the light throughout the day, creating an ever-changing atmosphere.
These fabrics are not only decorative: their design meets the constraints of offshore sailing. They are renowned for their resistance to UV rays, weather and wear and tear, ensuring the durability essential for a cruising yacht destined to sail the oceans.
The EIGHTY 2 stands out for the layout of its outdoor spaces, which extend life on board towards the horizon. The aft cockpit opens onto a modular platform, ideal for entertaining or facilitating access to the water. At the bow, a semi-open saloon links the exterior to the saloon, enhancing the fluidity of the spaces. The flybridge, which covers nearly 50 m², is a privileged observation post from which to enjoy the sailing experience.
Thanks to Sunbrella, these areas become places to relax where comfort and aesthetics come together. The textiles adorn the furniture as well as the sails, cushions and integrated seating, giving the yacht a consistent overall identity.
The Cannes Yachting Festival, which brings together hundreds of exhibitors and attracts thousands of visitors every year, served as the ideal showcase for the launch of this new model. At a time when boaters' expectations are shifting towards greater sustainability and customisation, Lagoon wanted to show with the EIGHTY 2 that technical innovation and inspired design can go hand in hand.
The presentation in Cannes also highlighted the importance of partnerships in the nautical industry. By choosing Sunbrella, Lagoon has joined forces with a brand that shares its desire to create sustainable and aesthetic solutions tailored to a demanding and international clientele.
The EIGHTY 2 illustrates a broader trend in the sector: the growing integration of complementary expertise to offer high-end experiences. In the nautical industry, the customisation of interiors and exteriors is becoming a key differentiating factor. Owners are looking for yachts that reflect not only a lifestyle but also an aesthetic vision.
Furthermore, sustainability is a central concern. By collaborating with Sunbrella, whose textiles meet criteria for durability and environmental performance, Lagoon is placing its flagship model firmly within this dynamic of responsibility.
