With the Windy SR40, the Swedish shipyard, imported into France by Merveille Nautic (Saint Tropez), has undoubtedly produced one of the most intelligent models to come out in recent years, offering total versatility between day boat and liveaboard, between Mediterranean and Nordic models, without detracting from the house style that has made Windy famous, and while retaining its high-end marine qualities. A must-see at the Cannes Yachting Festival.
Since 1966, Windy has drawn its identity from the North Sea and the legacy of its founder, Hugo Vold. The son of a fisherman, he knew the anxiety of families waiting for their loved ones to return from the storms of the Skagerrak. To pay tribute to him, he named his company Windy, in reference to his father's sturdy boats, called “Vindy.” Nearly sixty years later, the brand remains faithful to this commitment to safety and performance, offering hulls renowned for their robustness and quality construction.
The SR40 follows in this tradition, while introducing a new generation of sporty models. It is the third model in the SR Sports Boat line and the sixth new model launched by Windy in just three years, demonstrating the company's strong industrial momentum.
The SR40's cockpit illustrates the search for balance between ergonomic steering and passenger comfort. Large sliding side doors provide total protection from the elements when necessary, but can be retracted to create the impression of a completely open boat. The sunroof amplifies this feeling of freedom, transforming the outdoor living space.
The concept is reminiscent of the automotive world, with roof bars for transporting paddles, fliteboards, fishing rods, or even bicycles, reinforcing the image of a boat designed as a marine SUV. This flexibility illustrates the SR40's purpose: to accompany its owners in all their desires, from sporting outings to convivial family anchorages.
The design of the SR40 benefited from the vision of Espen Øino, a Norwegian naval architect based in Monaco, recognized as one of the world's leading designers of custom yachts. His signature style can be seen in the elegance of the lines and the ingenuity of the layout, faithful to the Windy DNA: no compromise on performance, but great attention paid to life on board.
Inside, the collaboration with the Design Unlimited studio, led by Mark Tucker, has resulted in a flexible layout. Owners can opt for a large modular sofa or a fixed berth, depending on their program. The finishes echo the codes of the exterior hull with harmonized touches of color. The furniture, equipped with optimized storage, incorporates clever solutions such as lined drawers and concealed wardrobes. The “floating seat” effect frees up even more space.
Particular attention has been paid to the ambiance, with indirect lighting that highlights the volumes. The SR40 breaks with convention by offering dynamic geometries and customization options ranging from striking contrasts to soothing colors.
The Windy SR40 is first and foremost a multifaceted boat. Its hull, true to the brand's reputation, guarantees speed and seaworthiness, while its layout is suitable for both sporty outings and extended periods of relaxation. This duality between performance and comfort sums up the Windy philosophy: to offer boats that can adapt to today's diverse sailing programs.
With this model, Windy confirms its pioneering role in the premium sports and family boat segment. The SR40 is not just a new addition to an already extensive range; it embodies a modern vision of boating, where every space is designed to be modular and every detail is designed to make life easier for boaters.
An intelligent marine crossover, combining Scandinavian heritage and contemporary design to appeal to a new generation of sailors.
