Electrically assisted bicycles have invaded the landscape, and hordes of cyclists, not always all young, are riding full throttle in the middle of the woods or on country roads, playing with the difference in altitude as if it did not exist...

The brand new Seacycler is an elegant pedal boat with electric assistance.

Admit that compared to a pedal boat of the 1980s, heavy as an ox and equipped with a single paddle wheel as the only means of propulsion, the Seacycler is a real eye-catcher!

In terms of look, it is an elegant runabout (5 meters by 1.65 meters wide for 500 to 600 kg) open at the back and equipped with a large swimming platform. It is rather successful. It is true that the founder of Mermade, the German company that manufactures them, is a subcontractor of Bavaria. 

Technically speaking, it is a pedelec. A pedelec is a bicycle with assistance. Equipped with a motor that is not designed to move the machine alone. Thus, on a pedelec, no gas pedal.

It is the same with the Seacycler, which is equipped with a wheel and two pairs of pedals for human propulsion.

It also embeds a Floren Marine Technik pod motor, powered by a 100 or 150 Ah battery in 48 V. These batteries, which are recycled automotive accumulators, can be recharged at the dock and provide four hours of assistance to the craft. The motor, in action in concert with the calves of the pilots, confers to the unit the feelings of a 15 HP outboard.

Two pods are proposed, 11 and 20 kW, the second one propelling the machine, with the help of two pairs of calves, at 20 knots!

On the services side, there is a cooler, amplified speakers and USB plugs.

The boat is available in a version with a fixed photovoltaic bimini that makes it a kind of solar pedal boat.

Several colors and types of upholstery are available.
