The Sunreef Eco range - Unique technologies for eco-responsible yachting

Sunreef is without doubt one of the most visionary boat builders when it comes to eco-responsible boating. More than ten years ago, they were already developing a battery system that could last through the night without the need for generators. And this desire to invest in more responsible technologies has never left the shipyard, which has made it, in a way, one of its trademarks.

The Sunreef Eco range - Unique technologies for eco-responsible yachting

With the subsequent development of the Sunreef Eco range, Sunreef became the first shipyard to launch an entire range of electric motor yachts: a historic first. The range offers eco-responsible yachts conceived and designed to provide owners with a silent, responsible, autonomous and comfortable sailing experience.

The 80 Sunreef Power Eco is a perfect example of this: the 80-foot-long motoryacht is electric and features Sunreef's patented 'solar skin' technology, which enables it to be powered mainly by solar energy from panels located all over the exterior of the boat.

And as Nicolas Lapp, co-founder of the shipyard, tells us, eco-responsible yachting is very popular.

"When we're at the yard, all I see are boats with solar panels, so there's a real demand. It's also surprising because the result came much more quickly than we thought. We had our predictions, of course, but we'd never have thought that one year after the presentation of the first Eco boat, we'd already have 60% of orders for Eco boats.

Moreover, the fact that it is electric does not make the boat any less solid or reliable than a conventional motorboat, since in terms of speed, power or reliability, the 80 Sunreef Power Eco is comparable to a modern traditional yacht. She makes 9 or 10 knots at economy speed and can reach 13 or 14 knots at top speed, with 2 times 190 kw of engine propulsion. On board, 990 kw of Sunreef batteries can be taken on board, allowing the boat to remain autonomous.

And Nicolas Lapp explains it very well: the yacht is also designed to depend solely on itself:

"When the boat is in a bay, with the solar panels, you can stay there indefinitely. You can enjoy it without noise or smell. When you navigate a boat like this (80 Sunreef Power Eco), you feel like you're sailing. You're on a motorboat, but you feel like you're on a sailboat.

And that's what owners of yachts in the Eco range are looking for too. Reducing their carbon footprint, enjoying a silent ride, with no smoke, vibrations or odours, and benefiting from the impeccable technology of the Sunreef Eco range; a more enjoyable ride, in the end.
