New consolidation in the luxury powerboat sector

Boating, yachting and sport fishing - It's a new era for Intrepid Powerboats, the U.S. shipyard based in Largo, Florida, which is coming under the control of Marinemax.

Intrepid Powerboats specializes in the construction of sport fishing open outboards, in the luxury and customization segment, as well as more sporty units with a deck bow. All models, which range from 24 to 47 feet, are marketed under the Intrepid brand.

The shipyard, which has a turnover of $60 million, is mainly active in the United States, as European taxes put in place after the closure of American borders under the Trump era, have dried up its European potential.

In the luxury sport fishing market, Intrepid faces stiff competition from American competitors such as Wellcraft, Boston Whaler, Edgewater, and European competitors such as Seagame or White Shark.

Commenting on the acquisition, W. Brett McGill, CEO and President of MarineMax, said, "The acquisition of Intrepid Powerboats allows us to provide Intrepid with additional resources to grow and improve the way it serves its customers. We believe we can help grow the Intrepid brand by leveraging our digital technologies, capital and other resources. This acquisition is in line with our long-term strategy of enriching our portfolio of businesses with quality structures to our portfolio and implementing best practices to support gross margin expansion."
