Absolute Yachts launches two new vessels with Volvo Penta IPS

The Absolute 52Fly will be unveiled at one of the world’s premier marine leisure shows, the Cannes Yachting Festival, while the Absolute 58Fly will be revealed in 2017.

Absolute Yachts, which specializes in creating premium motor yachts, is building on a long-standing co-operation with Volvo Penta by using the Swedish manufacturer’s innovative IPS in its new boats.

“We have a strong relationship with Volvo Penta and have already installed their IPS drives in our whole range of boats,” says Cesare Mastroianni, vice president of sales and chief commercial officer at Absolute Yachts on Yachting Art. “IPS has been revolutionary in the yacht-building market as the system is great for fuel economy, has a good environmental impact due to low emissions, and provides excellent on-board comfort for passengers thanks to minimal noise and vibration.”

Absolute Yachts has been designing and building boats for the leisure market since 2002 at its shipyard near Piacenza, not far from Milan. It creates a range of marine vessels from 12 meters to 22 meters, including the Flybridge series, Sport Yacht, Sport Line, and Navetta models. All of them use Volvo Penta IPS.

The Absolute 52Fly is a Flybridge series yacht which is being restyled and upgraded for 2017 and is powered by two Volvo Penta D8-IPS700s. It will be on display at the Cannes Yachting Festival. The 52-foot yacht has four cabins and can accommodate up to seven guests and crew. A galley, dining and lounge areas, and sunbed on the main deck are complemented by additional seating and sun-loungers on the flybridge.

The Absolute 58Fly is a 58-foot yacht – also in the Flybridge series – and is powered by two Volvo Penta D8-IPS800s. It can accommodate up to six guests in its three cabins, while a fourth supplementary cabin can comfortably house a crew member. Cabins feature large windows that offer panoramic views, and sliding doors allow for the inner spaces to be optimized. An elegant bow sun pad on the main deck is perfect for sunny days.

The world premiere of the Absolute 58Fly will take place during the Hong Kong Gold Coast Boat Show in May 2017, featuring the D8-IPS800.

Ideal for the discerning yacht market

The twin installation 8-liter Volvo Penta D8-IPS700s each produce 550hp at a rated 2,900 RPM, while the D8-IPS800s each produce 600hp at 3,000RPM. The innovative design of IPS sees its forward-facing twin counter-rotating propellers situated below the hull to operate in undisturbed water. In doing so, they cause less drag and provide up to 30 per cent better fuel consumption than a traditional inboard shaft engine. The Stage III/Tier 3 IPS-700/800 also reduce particulate, NOx and hydrocarbon emissions.

Volvo Penta’s complete IPS range is suitable for yachts, sport cruisers, sport-fishing and semi-planing boats up to 100 feet. All installations are simple to operate with standard controls, joystick and all ‘Easy Boating’ options available. Easy Boating encompasses Volvo Penta’s philosophy that leisure boating should be simple, safe and enjoyable. Optional components include features, such as: the customizable Glass Cockpit System, Battery Management System and e-Key Remote, Interceptor System, and Joystick.

“These new boats consolidate the co-operation we have achieved with Absolute Yachts,” says Nicola Pomi, marine sales manager at Volvo Penta in Italy and Spain on Yachting Art. “They have selected our IPS drives in many of their boats, as the system is ideal for the discerning yacht market, both from a perspective of performance and customer comfort. We hope to continue working with them for many years to come.”

Volvo Penta will be at stand Jetee 179 at the Cannes Yachting Festival; Absolute Yachts will also be at the show, at stand Pantiero PAN205.
