Sunreef Yachts, the world leader in semi-custom luxury catamarans, founded 20 years ago by Frenchman Francis Lapp in Gdansk, Poland, has once again distinguished itself in the field of innovation and the environment.
The Sunreef 43M Eco has been honoured with the German Innovation Award 2025 in the category ‘Excellence in Business to Consumer - Transportation’. This prize, awarded by the German Design Council, recognises projects and products that offer real added value through an innovative approach, particularly when they significantly improve everyday life or usage in their sector.
With this 43-metre electric catamaran superyacht, Sunreef Yachts offers a concrete response to the environmental challenges facing luxury yachting. Three units have already been ordered, and construction is well underway at the Polish shipyard, which specialises in high-end multihulls. This model stands out in particular for its integration of 250 m² of solar panels, including 120 m² directly incorporated into the yacht's structure, a first on this scale. The system powers an all-electric propulsion system.
Energy autonomy at sea is further enhanced by a hydrogenation system, which allows the yacht to recover energy while underway, as well as by new-generation batteries with a capacity of 1 MWh. This technological architecture ensures silent, emission-free navigation and enhanced autonomy, even on long cruises.
The German Innovation Award 2025 recognises Sunreef's ongoing innovation strategy, already recognised for its advances in solar and hybrid catamarans. In a sector where the energy transition is still marginal, this award distinguishes a concrete approach that combines cutting-edge design, precision engineering and environmental commitment. The 43M Eco thus represents a new step towards more responsible yachting, without compromising on the standards of comfort and luxury expected in the superyacht segment.
