Yachting Festival - Mercury Marine unveils its new 150R/200R V6 outboard engines

Mercury Marine and Mercury Racing took advantage of the Cannes Yachting Festival 2024 to unveil two new Racing outboard engines. At the same time, the American engine manufacturer also presented new colour options for the 150hp FourStroke, and introduced a new mid-range Jet outboard.

The announcements were made at a press conference at Mercury's stand in Port Canto this afternoon, in the presence of the manufacturer's worldwide staff.

The new 150R and 200R outboard engines are synonymous with torque. With a displacement of 3.4 litres, these V6 engines offer high performance in terms of lift and acceleration, without the weight of a V8, because they are based on a V6 architecture. Transient Spark technology electronically adjusts ignition timing to produce extra torque, improving lift and acceleration. At full throttle, the 150R reaches 6,000 rpm, while the 200R revs up to 6,400 rpm.

These outboards incorporate all the features of Mercury Marine's V6 platform, including Digital Throttle & Shift (DTS) for smooth, precise control. Fuel economy is maximised with integrated GPS features such as Mercury's Active Trim, Adaptive Speed Control and Advanced Range Optimisation, ensuring precise fuel management. The 150R and 200R run on standard fuel (95 RON), saving money at the pump.

The 150R and 200R engines feature a powerful 85-amp alternator, surpassing the 44-55 amps of competing engines. Thanks to Mercury's integrated battery management system, even with a full complement of electronic equipment on board, owners still benefit from sufficient electrical power to meet all their needs.

"The new 150R and 200R incorporate the Mercury Racing DNA into our range of V6 outboard engines. These engines offer the best low-end torque in their class,’ Jeff Broman, Mercury Racing Category Manager told ActuNautique. “With the many digital features of Mercury's V6 platform, the competition simply can't compete.”

The 200R is available in two baseplate configurations. The 200R Torque Master, weighing 213 kg, is designed for competition bassboats and other performance boats sailing between 80 and 85 km/h. The 200R Sport Master, weighing 222 kg, is designed for high-performance boats reaching speeds of 135 km/h and more. The 150R is available with shaft lengths of 50.8 and 63.5 cm, while the 200R Torque Master and Sport Master benefit from a 50.8 cm shaft.

"In recent years, Mercury Marine and Mercury Racing have pushed the boundaries of innovation in the outboard market by introducing new V8 and V10 models at the top of our range. Now we're responding to customer demand by expanding our range of V6 engines. With the 150R and 200R, our customers now have a wide range of sophisticated, high-tech outboard engines for their boating adventures,’ concluded John Buelow, President of Mercury Marine.
