Yachting and multihull sailing - Excess Catamarans is expanding its range of catamaran yachts, currently comprising the Excess 11 and Excess 14, with an all-new Excess 13, a model that heralds a new era, whose signature ‘Less is More’ is highly indicative of the brand's evolution.
ActuNautique Yachting Art is already in a position to reveal the very first images, which highlight the respect for theExcess DNA - large trampoline and mast forward of the roof for a ‘sporty snout’, 2 steering wheels aft of the hulls, asymmetric hulls and no flybridge - but with changes that reflect the change of naval architect.
Gone is VPLP, replaced by Lombard Design, a change that no doubt reflects a desire to break away from the Excess Catamarans brand, as VPLP has always worked for Lagoon, another Bénéteau Group brand.
Among the information that has filtered through is the new brand signature, which is not insignificant in these times: Less is More, which brings to mind a long discussion with Jean-Marc Piaton, the model's interior designer.
TheExcess 13 undoubtedly best embodies the expectations of some customers for greater simplicity, authenticity and a return to their roots, and no doubt also for more affordable prices.
From a technical point of view, the Excess 13 measures 12.99m in overall length, or 42.7 feet, with a beam of 7.25m. Her light displacement is 10.6 tonnes, or 816 kg per metre of hull, compared with 1009 kg per metre of hull for a Fountaine Pajot Astrea 42 with a length of 12.58 m excluding VAT. Her upwind sail area is 115 or 124m2, depending on the rig chosen.
The forthcoming Cannes Yachting Festival 2024 will be an opportunity for the ActuNautique Yachting Art teams to seek out more information for ActuNautautes, bearing in mind that it seems difficult to envisage a launch of theExcess 13 before the Multihull Show at La Grande Motte 2025...
