Founder and managing director of Simpson Marine, Mike Simpson is a pioneer of Asia’s yachting industry. He has played a leading role in the growth of the yachting lifestyle across the region, over the last 30 years.

Simpson Marine was founded in 1984 as a small brokerage and charter business in a squatters shack in Hong Kong’s Aberdeen. It is now the leading new yacht sales, brokerage and service and company in the region, with sixteen offices across seven countries, and a dedicated team of over 100.

Simpson Marine’s reputation for representing the best global brands, while offering the best service in the region, is built upon this 30 year history.

Mike Simpson and his team have accumulated an extensive network of industry relationships that are unparalleled in the Asian market. He believes in integrity, professionalism and leading from the front as guiding principles to success.

Inspired by a yacht he had seen in the Greek Islands, Mike left Europe for Taiwan to build his dream yacht in the early 1980s.

In 1984, he moved to Hong Kong and started Simpson Marine. Within a year, Mike Simpson had signed a dealership agreement with Beneteau Group, and sold his first Beneteau First 345 ! A dealership agreement with Azimut followed just a year later, and Simpson Marine started shaping the industry.

Mike’s vision of establishing a region-wide identity and network of interconnected offices was soon realised and through the 90s Simpson Marine established offices across Asia and had built a strong reputation as offering expertise and advice in all matters related to yacht ownership. In 2005 Mike focused the company’s expansion on China and signed a five year contract with China Cup for the delivery of 20 Beneteau First 40 racing yachts.

Over the years Mike has worked directly with shipyards to help refine yacht designs that are tailored the Asian consumer’s needs, focusing more and more on customisation and personalisation as the market matures.

The year 2015 marks the next chapter in Simpson Marine’s history as Mike looks ahead to the next 30 years. In May 2015, Simpson Marine was awarded exclusive dealership agreements for Sanlorenzo yachts and Viking yachts, which join Monte Carlo Yachts, Monte Carlo, Beneteau Power, Beneteau Sail and Lagoon in the Simpson Marine portfolio.

With an enviable range of the world’s best yachts by his side, Mike Simpson is embarking on the next phase of growth for Simpson Marine through expansion across the whole of Mainland China and deepening the company’s presence across the rest of Asia region. He holds big ambitions for the development of the superyacht division of the business and is committed to ongoing innovation to meet the growing opportunity and customer demands in this rapidly developing market.
